2023 Graduation Celebration

CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2023!

This is a much anticipated opportunity for you to celebrate your tremendous achievement with your family, friends, fellow classmates, SBCS GLI staff, and delegate(s) from your University. On behalf of the management and staff of SBCS GLI we wish you all the best for the future and look forward to celebrating this great success with you.

TICKETS

  • The purchase of your Graduation ticket includes the rental of the robe, hood, cap, and reception attendance.
  • A separate fee is payable for the official portrait image of you in your graduation attire. All photography will take place on the day of the graduation ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
  • Graduand Ticket Cost (without official photo): $ 775.00

  • Graduand Ticket Cost (with official photo):  $ 875.00 

  • Guest Ticket Cost $ 650.00 

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  • Registration can be completed via the Online Form indicated below or the Advisory and Admissions office at our Champs Fleurs Campus.
  • Period for Registration is Monday, August 28th, 2023 to Saturday, October 28th, 2023
  • Hours for registration;

                              Monday to Thursday:  9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Fridays:                       9:30 a.m. – 3:00p.m.

Saturdays:                   9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

  • Upon receipt of your registration form, a member of the team will contact you to advise of payment details.

EVENT INFORMATION

ATTIRE

  • Business Attire is recommended for Graduands, and comfortable shoes as you will be walking to and from the stage for the procession. Ladies are advised to select hair-styles that will not interfere with the placement of the graduation cap onto their head, and to avoid hair-styles where hair is placed or pinned on the top of the head. Additionally, avoid any clothing embellishment that may hinder the draping-effect of the graduation gown, for example, a corsage.

ARRIVAL TIME

  • You are advised to be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the time specified for your respective University (see over leaf), to facilitate dressing in the Graduation attire, and having the individual portrait photography completed before the start of the formal ceremony. Your guests will not be allowed in the assigned areas for dressing and photography. It is recommended that your guests arrive in time to be seated at 3:30 p.m. for the formal ceremony.

CHILDREN

  • Due to the length of the event, we ask that you refrain from bringing children under the age of eight. Please be aware that there will be long periods of sitting for the congratulatory speeches.

PARKING

Parking will be available at the car park adjoining the hotel, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please ensure that you have your parking stub validated by SBCS GLI staff at the reception table immediately upon your arrival.

 

BEFORE THE CEREMONY

You are required to be at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at the time designated for your respective University:

University of Sunderland                                               –     1:00 p.m.

Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Business School       –     1:45 p.m.

University of Greenwich                                                –      2:45 p.m.

  • Upon arrival, proceed to Level 2 of the hotel where you will find the SBCS GLI Graduation Reception table. The SBCS GLI staff will collect your ticket, validate your parking stub and guide you to Graduand Robing. When your guests arrive, they too will be greeted here and ushered to their seats in the Regency Ballroom. Your guests will not be allowed into the Graduand dressing and photography areas.
  • Inside Graduand Robing, you will be greeted by the team at the Entrance Station who will acknowledge your arrival on the Graduand List (you need only to give your name).
  • From here you will be guided to the Dressing Area where staff will guide you through the process to collect your assigned robe, hood and cap.

(Gentlemen will be asked to remove their jackets for proper fitting of the gown, and can retrieve them at the end of the ceremony in the same area).

  • You will then proceed to the Robing Registration Station, where you will need to sign for the collection of the robe, hood and cap.

You are responsible for the return of all three items (gown, hood, and cap) at the end of the ceremony. Unreturned items carry a replacement fee.

 

GRADUANDS REQUIRING OFFICIAL PHOTOS

  • Once the Robing Process is complete, you will proceed to the Photography Area where you will be ushered, in turn, to have your individual portrait taken. You will be asked to have your tassel in the ‘Graduate Position’ (placed on the right) for the portrait, following which, you will need to return the tassel to the ‘Graduand Position’ (placed on the left) for the ceremony.
  • Upon completion of the photography, you will proceed to the Exit Station where staff will acknowledge your completion of the dressing and photography process (you need only to give your name).
  • You will then be ushered to your assigned seat in the Regency Ballroom. Your seat will be tagged, by University and degree, and is arranged in alphabetical order by your last name.
  • Once you are dressed in the Graduation Attire, you will not be allowed to exit the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Before exiting you will need to be disrobed.
  • Ensure you have a hearty lunch before you arrive at the hotel.

 

DURING THE CEREMONY

  • Please stay in your assigned seat as this is the order in which you will cross the stage. Changing seats means someone else’s name may be called when you are crossing the stage.
  • Graduands will be presented by University. Upon presentation of the Graduands, approach the stage from your left. Allow the ushers to guide you to the stage for the procession. All Master’s Degree Graduands will be presented first, followed by all Bachelor’s Degree Graduands.
  • As the procession heads towards the stage, SBCS GLI staff will be on hand to ensure that your robe, hood and cap are all in order.
  • Proceed onto the stage where you will be greeted by your University Delegate and Dr. Maraj. Continue to exit the stage on the opposite side.
  • Return to your seat, allowing the ushers to guide you.
    • From here you will be guided to the Dressing Area where staff will guide you through the process to collect your assigned robe, hood and cap.

AFTER THE CEREMONY/COCKTAIL FUNCTION

  • Upon completion, join the Cocktail Reception in the Port of Spain Ballroom.
  • Sumptuous dishes (including vegetarian options) as well as desserts will be provided. Non-alcoholic drinks will be served during the cocktail function. Additionally, there will be a cash bar onsite for those wishing to partake of alcoholic beverages.
