On Tuesday, February 14, 2012, the Student Services Department organized an HIV Awareness Seminar for the students at the Champs Fleurs campus. This seminar was facilitated by the Rapport Youth Information Centre (Arima). The presenters were Jason Burnett (MBA student), Faithlyn Ouckama and Jameela Ollivierre.
The aim of the session was to enlighten and educate the students about HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The information relayed by the presenters was well received by the students in attendance, as evidenced by the quality of questions posed and the calibre of discussions. At the end of the session, many participants admitted to gaining new insight, clarity and awareness of STIs and the means of contracting them, both conventional and non-traditional.
Rapport Youth Information Centre also visited the Trincity campus on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. This time the presentation took the form of a dramatization. The students were totally engrossed in the skit and were equally interactive during the subsequent question and answer segment. At the end of the presentation the students were provided with booklets offering further information on HIV/AIDS and other STIs.
