RECAP | SBCS’ 2019 Employment, Entrepreneurship & Career Fair

Published: 4:30 PM on August 12, 2019

Our annual Employment, Entrepreneurship and Career Fair was held on Friday, August 9th from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm at our Champs Fleurs campus. Dubbed, “The SBCS Advantage” this year’s offering drew 29 employers ranging from manufacturing and financial institutions to tech-innovation companies, and everything in between. Nearly 200 students, seeking both part-time and full-time opportunities spent the day networking at the Fair.

The Fair was held for the 5th year in a row and was again hosted by the Student Services team. It happens annually during the July – August period and provides an opportunity for students to interact with representatives from companies seeking to add to their pool of talented and qualified professionals. As in Fairs past, students came prepared to learn and make new connections. New to the build-up to the event this year was the inclusion of a complimentary consultation led by lecturer Peter Kelly, where he gave some last-minute tips on refining and readying students’ résumés and CVs for presentation to the employers in attendance at the Fair.

In addition to the recruitment and networking activities on the day, there was also a focus on wellness, headlined by an insightful and motivational session on goal setting that was delivered by Ms. Caron Greaves – SBCS lecturer and Managing Director, Choice HR Limited. Notable mention and kudos as well for image management professionals Advanced Intellectual Concepts Ltd and MonsterFactory101 who counseled attendees on achieving and maintaining proper professional and personal etiquette.

Executive Director, Dr. Robin Maraj in his post-mortem address praised the collaboration among the staff and lecturers in making this year’s event a successful one: “A great team effort! This initiative was preceded by a number of preparatory events which were also well organized and executed. Despite challenges, we must continue to do the best that we can for our learners, both inside and outside of the classroom, who are always deserving of great service.”
