SBCS CAT Team Meets to Discuss New Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) Structure

Published: 12:00 AM on July 01, 2011

Lecturers for the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) programme, Senior SBCS staff, Accountancy Training and Education Centre (ATEC) administrators, and Student Campus Representatives, met on Saturday, June 18, 2011 to discuss the new programme, Foundations in Accountancy (FIA), which replaces the CAT Programme.

Discussions centred on the structure of the FIA and increasing student participation through the use of groups and tutorial sessions.

Lecturers suggested increased utilisation of lab sessions to provide additional student exposure to the Computer Based Exams (CBEs). They believe this will enhance students’ performance as the students familiarise themselves with the CBE type questions and mock exams using the ACCA I-Pass software.

The Student Representatives expressed positive feedback on quality of the lecturers, administrative support  and the campus environment. They appreciated the opportunity to partake in such a forum where their views and concerns could be heard, discussed, and acted upon.

The ATEC Team thanked the lecturers and the students for their attendance and for such a participative and informative meeting.

The next meeting for CAT/FIA lecturers is in six (6) months, with smaller, specialized team meetings scheduled throughout the next few months.
