SBCS’ Centre for Information Technology and Engineering (CITE) recently completed its inaugural Fiber Optics – Outside Plant (FOT-OSP) training for a corporate client (Actavo) at the Champs Fleurs campus. Eight (8) of the company’s staffers were engaged in practical and theoretical training sessions from 11th November to 16th December 2017. These were followed by a revision session on 12th March 2018 ahead of the examinations that were carried out on 13th March 2018.

For over 15 years, SBCS Global Learning Institute has offered the Certified Fiber Optics Installer (C.F.O.I.) from the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA). This training marked the first time since SBCS became a registered centre for ETA examinations in 2007, that SBCS hosted tutoring in tandem with the formal assessment for an ETA credential.

Utilising the combination of our Lab A Engineering lab, and recently commissioned Block E Engineering facility, this customized FOT-OSP training was completed in 51 hours and covered a range of topics that included: Principles of Light and Fiber Optic Transmission Theory, Single-Mode Fiber, Characteristics, Construction and Theory, Types of Splicing, Cable Installation, Hardware, Fiber Optic Link, Optical Fiber Measurement and Testing, Link and Cable Testing, and Safety.
