SBCS’ Divali Expression

Published: 12:00 AM on December 10, 2013

SBCS’ San Fernando students in collaboration with Student Services hosted its annual Divali programme on Thursday, October 31st, 2013. This programme was marked by expressions of joy and togetherness as staff members and students gathered, to celebrate this auspicious occasion on the Hindu calendar.

Attendees were treated to a presentation on the meaning of Divali, a short story, poem, music and song. There was also a Mehendi artist on-site, Ms. Vanie Motilal, who adorned students with mehendi designs. The various aspects of this event conveyed the essence of Divali: the festival of lights signifying the triumph of good over evil and truth over falsehood. Students also engaged in other activities such as ‘Pick a Deya’ and ‘Divali Trivia’.

The Fashion show and the sharing of sweets were the most popular proceedings on the day. Students were fascinated by the brightly sequined saris and shalwars worn by the models. Their taste buds were also treated to a burst of flavour as they enjoyed barfi, gulab jamun and kurma.

We trust that all in attendance will share the sentiment that our Divali programme was a success as our students’ expressed creativity in showcasing Divali’s true meaning.
