September 23-27 was earmarked as our week to welcome new and returning students, along with launching our “Student Life” initiatives. Our full-time students were treated to a variety of presentations and activities to celebrate Welcome Week 2013. Here’s how the week went:
Monday
We kicked off with Student Appreciation Day, where 200 tokens were distributed to students at the Champs Fleurs, San Fernando and Trincity campuses. Random paper hearts were located in various classrooms, and students who found them under their chairs were able to redeem their heart for a gift at Student Services. Also on Monday, a first aid and C.P.R. demonstration was presented at the Champs Fleurs Campus by Kionne Phillips of the Trinidad & Tobago Fire Service.
Tuesday – Republic Day
Two SBCS Teams participated in the Newsday 5K Classic. Hot, sweaty, huffing and puffing all team members crossed the finished line!
Wednesday
Exciting presentations on careers were made by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard and Air Guard. While this was happening, the Student Council was also busy signing up students for various clubs and hosting games and a treasure hunt for our students.
Thursday
Arrive Alive! were on site to endorse the virtues of safe and sober driving. The Ministry of Health, Scotia Bank and Republic Bank all hosted informative booths for our students. Meanwhile in U10, the Student Council held their lively Open Forum, ably supported by representatives of the Tertiary Students Union of Trinidad & Tobago.
Friday
Welcome Week ended with a Karaoke competition at Trincity. Naturally, a picture is worth a thousand words, and the photos will tell the tale of the powerful performances at Karaoke 2013. Not to be left out, San Fernando campus had full Welcome Day activities on Friday, September 27, however there will be more details on Welcome Day in a subsequent post.
If measured by smiles and appreciative students, we are now happy to declare WELCOME WEEK 2013 a resounding success!
