The Student Services Department can help if you need information, advice and guidance, or support regarding general non-academic enquiries. Our staff are trained to deal with a wide range of enquiries and are a key source of information on many of SBCS’ social and cultural activities.

Orientation
We offer an orientation programme at the beginning of each semester for our new students. The objective of the programme is to assist students in making a successful academic, intellectual and social transition to student life at SBCS.
SBCS eLearning Management System
SBCS E-Learning (https://sbcstt.com/) is an open-source Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The main aspect of SBCS E-Learning is to improve and facilitate the interaction between students and lecturers. It also provides one interface, in which students can access course material as well as interact with other members of their respective class.
Benefits of SBCS E-Learning Management System to students are:
- Slides, URLs and additional resources are more accessible
- Students no longer have to log into multiple platforms to access material
- Encourages and facilitates interaction between lecturers and students

Academic & Career Guidance
Student Services provides academic and career guidance services for prospective and current students and alumni. Our staff can assist individuals in accessing and explaining the details of the programmes offered at SBCS, understanding which qualifications assist in pursuing specific careers and in the decision-making process leading to the selection of a suitable programme and career based on individual aptitudes, interests and skills.
The goal of our guidance is to clarify and encourage students’ career goals and assist in selecting programmes that are suited to their career aspirations.
Five things you need to know before choosing your career
1. Focus on your Strengths
Successful people are those who have discovered their strengths and then play to those strengths. If you are great at Art and History and gets poor marks in Accountancy, then don’t do the Accountancy degree. Pursue your passions, talents and strengths and make the effort to discover what those are.
2. You are not choosing careers for life.
The Department of Labour estimates that today’s teenagers will have 10 – 14 different jobs by the age of 38! We are no longer in an era where we choose a career for life and so rather follow something that you enjoy.
3. Follow YOUR dreams
Sometimes your parents put pressure on you to let go of your dreams and follow the “safe and secure” route. You are now old enough (and wise enough) to make your own choices. Ask your parents, teachers and friends for advice but make your own decision. Your happiness and fulfilment will come from them living your dreams and your authentic purpose not following what someone else thinks you should do.
4. The Wealthiest people in the World LOVE what they do
When you follow your strengths and love what you do, the money will come. All the billionaires in the world are passionate about their careers.
5. Research, research and research some more
You are the Google generation and have the ability to research any profession and your tertiary options with the click of a mouse. The discovery process around careers is important and the more information you are exposed to about different careers the better.

Counselling & Wellbeing
Student Services supports the academic, personal and professional development of our students. On occasion, students may experience personal challenges that may prevent them from attaining their full academic and personal potential. In the event of stressful or challenging circumstances, our students can access counselling via the Student Services Department.
Counselling is available to all students of SBCS and is provided primarily by appointment. Counselling Services are provided either by a trained member of staff at SBCS or our psychological services provider (through referral).
Students are also made aware of alternative Emergency Services and/or Crisis Hotlines via our noticeboards, LMS and student handbooks.

Career Development Programmes
Student Services offers career development programmes for our students, to assist in their preparation for the world of work. The primary objective of these programmes is to introduce students to and/or reinforce the skills that are required for successful transition to the role of employee and/or entrepreneur.
The following are the career development programmes which are offered to our entry-level students and graduating students and alumni.
- Get WorkReady: This workshop targets the full time, first and second-year students. It has been developed to equip these students with the skills necessary to be successful, not only in an interview but also to be able to function professionally in the workplace.
- Maximizing Your Career: A two-day workshop designed for final year students and alumni to further aid in their personal development into ethical, imaginative, creative and innovative lifelong learners, focused on excellence and passionate about their work.
Job Placement Programme
Student Services serves to assist students who are seeking employment by maintaining a resume database. Employers often contact SBCS in search of suitable candidates to fill existing vacancies. Student Services, in turn, forwards the vacancy details to students and alumni, who would have attained or are in the process of attaining the qualifications outlined in the vacancy, for their perusal. Once a student/ alumni member has confirmed his or her interest, the department then forwards the student’s/ alumni’s resume to the employer on their behalf.

Addressing Complaints & Grievances
We seek to promote an educational environment that values communication, fairness and respect among students, faculty and staff. Despite these efforts, differences in the values and/or goals of members of the aforementioned groups may occasionally contribute to circumstances that leave the students feeling aggrieved. Such occurrences warrant a process by which students can seek a resolution to their grievances.
Issues may occur that require the immediate attention of SBCS authorities. Should you wish to address such matters, you are encouraged to first discuss the problem with the individual(s) involved.
If not satisfied with the response of the individual(s), or if you are unable to discuss your grievance with the individual(s) involved, you may direct your grievance/ complaint/ concern to your Course Administrator and /or your Student Services Administrator.
You may request a copy of the SBCS Student Grievance Policy from Student Services for further clarification.
